Addressing your concern about stumbling one’s own content. This comes directly from the StumbleUpon site:

If you are sharing quality content with others, you are not spamming. Do not focus your submissions on just your site but instead sharing quality information.

I have also looked up the following information from Digg for you to reference.

Encourage users to submit new content from your site to Digg. We’ll detect if the content exists already and provide either a Submit or Digging interface.
